John W. Harmon, III, LFD, Founder of Harmon Funeral Home - 1991 to Present
Mr. James W. Rogers, Jr., great uncle of Mr. John W. Harmon, III, LFDIC and Mr. James Harmon, LFD, BSW, was born on March 1, 1902 and was a native of Tampa, Florida. He was a graduate of Florida A&M High School and went on to attend Florida A&M University in 1919. After graduating from Florida Agriculture and Mechanical University, he enrolled in the New York School of Mortuary Science. He was a Diplomate Graduate of the Funeral Service School and returned to Tampa in 1938 where he established the Rogers Funeral Home in 1939.
Rogers Funeral Home was located in Old Roberts City on Garcia Avenue in Old West Tampa. In 1967, he relocated his business to East Tampa, on the Jackson Heights side of town, 34th Street. He was credited with having special talent in the area of funeral service restorative art. Mr. James W. Rogers, licensed funeral director-retired, also known as Jimmy, was 96 years. He passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 1999.
John W. Harmon, III, the founder of our current establishment, is the grand nephew of James W. Rogers, Funeral Director and Founder of Rogers Funeral Home.
